Meaningful Work, Hobbies and Relaxation
We have seen how powerful the mind is in the Health and Wellness series and how it controls our attitude. We have also seen how debilitating stress can be and how meditation can relieve stress, however having a meaningful job and hobbies that you enjoy and which enable you to relax are also critical to the quality of life. This combination is one of the most important choices you need to make. It is important that you keep your mind positively active at all times and to be grateful for everything in your life. The power of thought is extremely effective in ensuring good health and wellness.

For many years stress and / or depression have been suspected for contributing to the cause of chronic diseases, including cancer and also death itself.
It is therefore very important to do everything possible to avoid stress and depression, especially as you get older and this combination is critical to achieve that.
The critical success factors are having a positive mind, being happy, humble and grateful, balancing work and relaxation and having emotional support when needed.
This can best be achieved through three activities:
- having a meaningful job that you really enjoy and that motivates you
- staying busy with a hobby and / or playing sport, including exercising
- ensure you make time to relax, either through reading, meditation, watching TV or socialising with family and / or friends.
Assessment – firstly, do you enjoy your job and find it motivating ? Or are you like many people who hate their job and are permanently negative because of it, contributing to stress, depression and disease ?
Secondly what do you do with your spare time ? Do you have a hobby that you enjoy that keeps you busy ?
Finally are you making time to relax and unwind and get rid of any stress you have endured ?
Based on your answers you need to develop an action plan to address each of these points.
